ABC (Autobuses de Baja California) is the primary intercity bus operator for the Tijuana–Ensenada corridor and one of the most established transportation options in Baja California Norte. For travelers who have crossed the border at San Ysidro without a car, or for those arriving at Tijuana's airport, ABC is the standard way to reach Ensenada.

ABC Bus Schedule: Tijuana to Ensenada

ABC runs daily service throughout the year. Departures are not always on a fixed-minute schedule—buses depart when they are ready or when seats are filled—but the general cadence from the main terminal is:

• First departure: Approximately 6:00–6:30 AM
• Last departure: Approximately 9:30–10:00 PM
• Frequency during peak hours (8 AM–8 PM): Every 30–60 minutes
• Frequency in early morning / late evening: Every 60–90 minutes

Terminals in Tijuana

Main Terminal: Central de Autobuses de Tijuana

Location: Avenida Lázaro Cárdenas at Avenida Arroyo Alamar (also known as the "Camionera") Distance from pedestrian border crossing: Approximately 2 km; 5–10 minutes by taxi or Uber (MXN 40–80)

This is the primary ABC terminal and where most Ensenada-bound services originate. The terminal has a waiting area, ticket windows, and a small snack bar. It is busy but organized.

Avenida México Terminal (Downtown Tijuana)

Some ABC departures originate from or stop at a secondary terminal closer to the Zona Centro. This terminal is closer to the pedestrian crossing (~0.8 km) but has fewer services. Confirm at time of purchase whether your bus departs from here or from the main terminal.

The Route: Tijuana to Ensenada

ABC buses take Mexico 1-D (the toll highway) to Ensenada. Along the route, buses typically stop at:

• Rosarito / Primo Tapia (15–20 min from Tijuana)
• La Misión (~50–55 min)
• El Sauzal (~75–80 min)
• Ensenada Centro / Terminal (~90–110 min)

For visitors to Viento Ensenada at Km 104 in El Sauzal: The El Sauzal stop is approximately 10 km north of Ensenada's main bus terminal. If you are heading to Panorama by Viento, ask the driver to stop at El Sauzal (or the Km 104 area). From the highway stop, a short taxi or Uber ride of 2–5 minutes reaches the development.

What to Expect On Board

ABC buses are air-conditioned with reclining seats. First-class (Primera Plus / Ejecutivo) seats have more legroom and a smoother ride. Luggage is stored in the overhead rack or in the lower compartment for larger bags.

The journey on Mexico 1-D is visually one of the more dramatic highway rides in the region—the Pacific Ocean is visible for large stretches of the route, and the hillside terrain between La Misión and El Sauzal has a distinctly rugged, cinematic quality.

Paying for the Ticket

Tickets are sold at the terminal window in pesos (cash). At larger terminals and on newer ABC services, cards may be accepted, but arriving with MXN cash ensures no issues. ABC Bus: Return Service (Ensenada to Tijuana)

Return service from Ensenada to Tijuana operates on a similar frequency. The main departure point in Ensenada is the Central de Autobuses on Avenida Riveroll. Last bus back to Tijuana is typically around 9–10 PM. If you are making a day trip, departing Ensenada no later than 7 PM gives comfortable time to reach the Tijuana border for the crossing back to San Diego.

Connecting from San Diego

The most efficient connection from San Diego involves the San Diego Trolley (Blue Line to San Ysidro), pedestrian border crossing, and a taxi or Uber to the Tijuana bus terminal. The full San Diego–Ensenada journey via this route takes 2.5 to 3.5 hours.
